Argon (Ar) is present in atmospheric air in very small quantity (about 0.9%). It is colorless, odorless gas and highly inert (non-reactive) like Nitrogen.Argon is mostly used as an inert shielding gas in welding and other high-temperature industrial processes where ordinarily unreactive substances become reactive.
Application:
1. as a carrier gas in sputtering, plasma etching and ion implantations, and as a blanket atmosphere in crystal growth
